bonzai3d Tutorial Videos
Here are our featured tutorial videos for bonzai3d. There are many similarities between formZ and bonzai3d, so there are some videos here that apply to both.
This video tutorial builds off the last one on project organization in FormZ & Bonzai3d using the Objects and Layers palettes. This time I talk about the differences between the Views and Scenes palettes. I highlight the things you have to know when working with Scenes because it's not intuitive. Once you get this tip, you're going to love using them.
This video shows how I organize my architectural projects in FormZ or Bonzai3d which tend to have lots and lots of objects in the scene. I talk about the differences between the Object and Layers palettes, and which one I like best. I also give out a couple of hints about isolating and selecting objects in as well that make modeling a complex scene easier.
Here is the hour-long screen capture video of the webinar I hosted with Novedge. The topic was architectural modeling in FormZ, and I started with a CAD floor plan and started building as fast as I could. We had a great turnout with a few minutes of live question and answers at the end from those that were watching live.
Understanding basic camera exposure settings when using Maxwell Render is very important to getting the look you want and expect, especially when you are doing interior renderings.
This video tutorial shows you how easy it is to put the Maxwell Grass Preset Pack into action by taking you behind the scenes of my recently published Fields of Gold image. I was able to trick some into thinking this was a photograph when in reality it's a rendering using my presets and a very simple 3d scene in FormZ. It's pretty amazing what we can do with these tools isn't it? I'm obviously loving it.
One of you pointed out a glaring omission (thanks Mark) in Methodcast Quickie #11. Somehow I missed showing you how to assign a Material ID to your MXM materials. I only showed you how to assign them to materials that used the 'Translate Shaded' mode.
This tutorial should shed some light on the subject.
Have you struggled with what all the settings are for when applying materials in formZ and Bonzai3d? Have you figured out how to apply decals? Well I sat down and recorded this video to show you so you can get up and running very quickly.
Have you been assigning materials to your scenes, rendering, tweaking color, re-rendering, tweaking, rendering ad nauseam? I used to do this too. Well with this tutorial, it's time to stop! Learn the trick the pros use to tweak color after the rendering is already done in an image editor using a Material ID layer. I'll show you exactly how to do it in my favorite 3d tools - formZ and Maxwell Render. It works in other programs as well.
This video tutorial takes you through how I set up some helpful defaults before working in the formZ and bonzai3d modeling environment. These are things I like to do when starting fresh to make my modeling workflow more productive. Are these all of the settings I use? No, but they are a nice start. I also show why I use these settings with a few examples. I hope you find them useful too.
This is final tutorial in the three-part emitter lighting series where I show you how to use material emitters for lighting in formZ / Maxwell Render.
This is part two of the three part series where I show you how to use emitter lights in formZ in conjunction with the Maxwell Render plugin for interior lighting.
This tutorial is part one of a three part series where I show you how to use emitter lights in formZ in conjunction with the Maxwell Render plugin for interior lighting.
This Methodcast Quickie covers how to setup HDRI (otherwise known as IBL in Maxwell lingo) lights alongside Physical Sky lights for more realistic renderings that use the HDRI image for backgrounds and reflections in your building's glass. Although we use the host application of FormZ, this workflow is practically the same in other programs that Maxwell works with.
John Alexander over at AutoDesSys, the creators of both bonzai3d (which was recently upgraded to v3.0 this week) and formZ, recently posted a video showing the connectivity between Maxwell Render and bonzai3d. Click through to see it.
This short video tutorial shows you how to setup your scenes to effortlessly achieve Maxwell's beautiful depth of field (DOF) in your renders. I take you through the settings that control DOF and take you through a few examples of how to get the look you want in an easy-to-understand way. Everything I cover here should translate into any host application that Maxwell runs in.
This video tutorial covers how to setup exterior lighting and renderings using the various lighting strategies available in the Maxwell Render plugin for Bonzai3d. I cover the three most commonly used light types: Physical Sky, Sky Dome and Image Based Lighting (aka IBL or HDRI). This video also shows you how to position lights in Bonzai for the best results, whether you have Maxwell or not.
In this series of tutorial videos, I will show you how to use Maxwell Render via the new Bonzai3d plugin, and get extremely realistic, physically accurate imagery from these very easy-to-use yet robust modeling and rendering programs. This is the introduction video showing what the series will cover. Watch this one first.
This Methodcast is a follow-up video that covers the questions that were asked during and after the recent webinar I gave on FormZ for Architecture. Make sure you go back and watch the first video to see how I got to this point if you haven't seen it already. Additionally, I throw in a few great tips and tricks along the way so make sure you catch it all.
